‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Just one creature was stirring, but it wasn’t a mouse;
Plexiglas barricaded the chimney with care,
In hopes that no critters would come in through there.
The tenants had all gone back home during break,
To visit their parents and of their food partake;
But one of the girls made an evening stop back,
To pick up some laundry or maybe a snack.
When out of the fireplace there arose such a clatter,
She called up her landlord to see what was the matter.
Away out the door she flew like a flash,
She got out of the house, anticipating a crash.
The landlord was wise, and knew what to do,
He called Waldner Wildlife to check out the flue.
He said please come quickly before its too late,
And rescue my tenants from their frightful fate.
Soon Steve in his truck arrived at the home,
He gathered his gear for the creature unknown.
Peering up into the open flue damper,
His flashlight uncovered a masked chubby camper.
The raccoon thought to find a warm hiding place
But he could not be allowed to stay in that space.
How now to proceed with this late night eviction,
Without being attacked, scratched up and bitten?
Steve left the damper open, providing a route
For the trespassing raccoon to from the chimney get out.
Patiently he waited from atop the stair
Watching the fireplace, soon the raccoon to be there.
Time passed and waiting, Steve scrolled on his phone,
Keeping still and silent, as if no one were home.
Then once again, came the noise from the chimney
Until out from the fireplace, the raccoon came quite nimbly.
Free now he began to explore the home,
Then suddenly discovered that he was not alone.
With catchpole in hand, Steve followed his quarry,
He placed the raccoon in the cage, ending this story.
